The Marvel film universe is synonymous with the revolutionary nature of its production, especially the beginning of the trend of serial narration and shared universes. The Russo brothers also made the apparent impossible with Avengers: Infinity War, balancing and serving all the characters of the MCU in an epic and emotional scenario that packed his emotional instinct in his last moments. But to do that, a lot of material has been found on the floor of the cutting room.
Drax and Thanos are one of the couples who have not caught the eye. Dave Bautista's goalkeeper was originally motivated by his revenge on Mad Titan, but he was widely dismissed from Gamora and Nebula's stories in War of Infinity. But it turns out that a fight sequence between him and Thanos was initially launched, with even conceptual art. Check it out.
Pretty cool, right? This shows what it could have been like if the green and purple cosmic characters clashed in their own battle. And while Drax took up arms against Thanos twice during War of Infinity, they never met 1: 1 in the blockbuster.
This awesome new image comes from the conceptual artist Rodney Images, who collaborates with Marvel Studios to create his fantasy world. This includes Avengers: Infinity War, who had a long period of gestation and planning by the Russo brothers. The film had to balance a large set of characters. There is no doubt that the film included many additions and subtractions during its development process. In the end, Thanos and Drax had to fight, but we hope it will happen in Avengers 4.
When Drax was introduced for the first time in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, his character met the rest of the group because of his hatred for Thanos. Thanos killed Drax's family (and half of his planet). He is delighted to be able to kill Gamora and make Mad Titan suffer. Clearly, the group eventually became a full-fledged family, with the two Green Guardians uniting over their common disdain for Thanos. But when it was about War of InfinityDrax was widely used as a tertiary figure, although he was twice confronted by his arch-nemesis.
Drax fought Thanos in the initial conflict on Knowhere, as well as in the super exciting battle on Titan. He received a few hits, but eventually, the Avengers and Guardians failed to stop Thanos from collecting the Infinity Stones and destroying half of the galaxy with a snap. The Guardians suffered heavy losses. Mantis, Groot, Star-Lord and Drax all fell to dust in the last moments of the film. As such, it is unclear if / how Drax will manage to confront Thanos again.
Most Marvel fans think that the dusted characters will be revived, even if the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy the franchise is still not clear. With James Gunn sacked and Dave Bautista, his strongest supporter, Drax may never have the opportunity to finish his story.
Everything will be revealed when Avengers 4 arrives in theaters May 3, 2019. In the meantime, check out our list of 2019 news to plan your next trip to the cinema.
