A big inflatable colon has mysteriously disappeared in Kansas, but it's not a matter of laughter.

Last week, the $ 4,000 inflatable colon – which weighs 150 pounds – was stolen – in the bed of a van parked in Brookside, Kansas.

The development model, belonging to the Coalition Against Cancer, is used as a tool to educate people about the dangers of colon cancer. He was about to be on display at the annual 5K Sister's Living Beyond Breast Cancer 5K Relay in Swope Park, according to the University's Facebook page.

Because of its size, people can borrow the tunnel and learn about various health issues that affect the colon.

The colon makes appearances across the country at these events and acts as a "great conversation starter" to educate people about "colon cancer progression in a unique way".

"Screening for colorectal cancer is the most powerful weapon we have against colorectal cancer," said John Ashcraft, DO, oncologist surgeon at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. "Colon cancer is a difficult topic for many people and the giant inflatable colon, 150 pounds, ten feet long is an excellent topic of conversation."

Following his demise, the University of Kansas health system shared a video on YouTube with Dr. Dan Dixon accompanying viewers in the inflatable colon.

The video was recorded before his disappearance, but has since been published to raise public awareness of his disappearance.

The Colon Cancer Coalition also revealed on Twitter that they were working to replace the inflatable colon by launching an online donation page.
