An influential Australian Instagram responds via social media after being banned from entering one of the most iconic cultural institutions in France.
Newsha Syeh, 25, told 238,000 worshipers that she was not allowed to enter the Louvre Museum in Paris because of her revealing outfit. Syeh wore an indented black dress that stopped just below her seat and went down to her ankles with pure black matter and unique patterns.
"An Australian witch in Paris," Syeh subtitled a photo of her, who showed her enjoying coffee in a cafe while wearing the risky outfit.
"Yesterday at the Louvre, a guard for my outfit stopped me at the entrance," Syeh said later in his Instagram stories, obtained by the Daily Mail. "He made the most disgusted and horrible gestures and facial expressions, he swore to cover me, eyes filled with hate prevented me from entering."
Syeh added that she had been devastated and that entry was denied to her. She stated that she "was heartbroken". She also posted a screenshot of her search on Google to determine if the museum has a dress code.
She found an unofficial magazine that said, "There is no dress code in the Louvre, you can wear what you want to visit the Louvre. Do not forget that you will be walking MUCH. Bring comfortable shoes. Dress in layers like an onion. On the museum's website, no specific dress code is listed. However, in section 1, section 2 of the website, it is stated that customers are not allowed to "wear a swimsuit, nor be naked, bare chest or bare feet".
The responses to Syeh's message were varied. A detractor commented, "You are so pathetic to have even raised this issue as if you were a victim. Grow up and put on a shirt and not a swimsuit to visit the museums. You are embarrassing for Australia, not only for what you wear, but for playing the victim for something so trivial. "
However, many supporters, including one who said, "Clothes are an art and an artistic expression of ourselves. If anyone needs to understand this, it's a world-renowned museum. Sad that people are still decreasing women because of what they wear. More power for you! "
Syeh later told the Sun that she had already visited the Louvre with a similar outfit and that she had "no problem" to pass the security. "It was definitely a personal prejudice," she said.
Syeh later posted on Instagram with another photo of her wearing the same dress, stating: "Picasso would have liked my outfit."
