Instagram has confirmed its lead, with nearly 70% of teenagers saying they prefer brands contacting them about new products via Instagram. Snapchat moved to second place for the preferred brand, in front of e-mails, with just over 40%.
This was Piper Jaffary's 36th semi-annual survey of approximately 8,600 US adolescents, aged 16, on average.
Amazon ranked by far as the favorite website of teens. "The adoption of premium continues to be very strong" among teens too, said Piper Jaffray, referring to Amazon's premium subscription service.
With 47%, Amazon was the most preferred shopping website, with Nike ranking second at 5%.
Netflix was the number one streaming, according to the survey. Teens spend 38% of their time each day watching Netflix, "far ahead" with YouTube at 33%, said Piper Jaffray.
Apple increased its share of the wristwatch market among teens to 17%, with the Apple Watch ranking being the second most popular teen watch.
Nike has maintained its number one retail brand position among teens, but Piper Jaffray said the investigation revealed a "huge gain in Vans" and a "rebalancing to Adidas". Piper Jaffray also said that Lululemon had "taken on importance" as the second rank behind Nike for teenage girls.
