An Iraqi Instagram star was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the capital, Baghdad.
Tara Fares, 22, lived in the Kurdish city of Iraq, in Erbil, in the north of the country. During a visit to the capital on Thursday, the model was shot while she was sitting in her car in the Kam Sara neighborhood, reported the Kurdistan television channel 24.

Fans moved on social media to mourn her death, suggesting that she had been targeted because of her non-traditional image and lifestyle. Fares regularly commented on daily life in Iraq, where conservative religion and traditional gender roles still prevail.
"Tara's death screams discrimination, lack of freedom and rights," said a fan. "Sympathy is not enough."
The last message on his Instagram profile featured a black-and-white image of Fares, accompanied by a message of mourning.
