ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Tuesday that some people were wreaking chaos by misusing the name of Islam, which had led to negative propaganda from opponents.

Addressing the opening session of the Rahmatul-lil-Alimeen International Conference, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan was the only country in the world to have been created in the name of Islam, but it is unfortunate that some people denigrate this religion while pretending to be its guardians.

He regretted that after a few years, a trend condemned to blasphemous acts in the West, under the pretext of freedom of expression, provoked strong protests in the Muslim world, including in Pakistan.

He recalled that after such an incident in Holland, his government had approached the issue with the Dutch authorities and had successfully canceled a blasphemous cartoon contest. Later, the government raised this issue at various international forums, he added.

"Pakistan has also raised this issue at the OIC [Organisation of Islamic Cooperation] and the UN instances, which resulted in a declaration of the European Court of Human Rights, prohibiting religious defamation in the name of the expression of freedom ", he declares. Pakistan will propose an international convention on defamation of religions to protect the feelings of 1.25 billion Muslims around the world, he added.

"Ahmer Bilal Sufi, an expert in international law, will become the prime minister's special envoy to visit different countries and seek their support for the draft convention," Khan said. "Pakistan will spearhead this convention so that there is an international law to address this sensitive issue."

The prime minister also announced that the government would create special chairs on the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in three universities of the country placed under the High Commission of Education (HEC).

The initiative aimed to study the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who turned the state of Madina into a superpower, "he said. "It is necessary to study how it (PBUH) allowed poor Arabs to reach India, Central Asia and Morocco in just 30 years," he said. added.

"After the success of the Battle of Badr with 313 Muslims in 625 AD, Muslims defeated the Roman and Persian empires, respectively, in 636 and 638 AD," he said. "It is necessary to study how the state of Medina was transformed into a superpower in eleven years."

The theme of the conference was "Purpose of the Prophecy and Responsibilities of Muslims in Light of the Teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)". In his address, the Prime Minister spoke at length about the way of life and the strong character of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Prime Minister Khan said that the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who preached peace and love, was a model for all Muslims. Only through the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) have the "ulemas" such as Khwaja Nizam-ud-Din, Data Ganj Bukhsh, Baba Farid, Baba Bulleh Shah, Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti and others, been encouraged to attain every corner of the world where to fish for Islam, "he added.

"They did not spread Islam by the sword, but by their character. The promotion of Islam in Indonesia and Malaysia was not due to the efforts of the army, but to the true character and true relations of the Muslims who had gone there to trade. "

Prime Minister Khan recalled his tendency to religion after meeting with Mian Bashir Sufi, a scholar, during his cricket years. With the blessings of the Almighty Allah, he said, he began to read and understand the Quran, which was a turning point for him.

The prime minister said that the faith of any Muslim would not be complete without the true love of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He also reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Pakistan into a modern Islamic welfare state, consistent with the Islamic teachings and ideology of his ancestors.

Prime Minister Khan praised the efforts of the Ministry of Religious Affairs for the organization of the conference and said that it should be an annual event. Later, he distributed awards to the holders of a book contest on Seerat-a-Nai (PBUH).

Minister of Religious Affairs Noor-ul-Haq Qadri and various academics also spoke at the conference, which was attended by a number of national and foreign scholars and scholars, as well as members of the Cabinet, parliamentarians, diplomats and students.
