We are a nation of blamers.
Whenever we face a problem, the first answer is to find the "culprit".
Who will take the fall?
Who will be thrown under the bus?
Who will be placed in the modern palisades of social media criticism as armies of vulture ambulance hunters attempt to steal Roadkill pawn wallets?
In the latest initiative to end the opioid epidemic in America, the state of Florida sued Walgreens and CVS, claiming that both drugstore chains were partly responsible for the opioid crisis by "neglecting painkillers and by not taking the necessary precautions to stop illegal sales. "
Walgreens and CVS are now part of a group of drug companies and opioid distributors targeted by the Sunshine State to have essentially served as a catalyst for the opioid epidemic.
Although the charges, including drug companies and some less ethical pharmacies and doctors, are undoubtedly dubious, Florida's lawsuits will not put an end to the opioid problem we face today.
Prosecutions and opportunistic district attorneys can not help people end their opioid addiction, nor can they prevent them from getting their hands on these products. And while I have not shed any tears for pharmaceutical companies that have aggressively pushed doctors to prescribe these dangerous drugs, even when they were not needed, capitalism is the only thing that will really make a difference in this crisis. very real.
It's personal
I do not want to sound insolent, but at the end of the day, if we wait for the government to resolve this problem, we will wait a long time and many more will die.
Fortunately, the free market has spawned a number of new solutions to the epidemic of opioids, responsible for the deaths of more than 200,000 people.
These solutions are provided by companies that have developed drugs that can bring people back after an overdose.
These are companies that have developed new treatments that can completely eliminate opioid addiction.
These are companies that have developed new pain relievers that can legitimately replace certain opioid drugs, without the risk of addiction.
I realize that I can seem a little exaggerated on this issue. But for me, it's personal.
Crisis = opportunity
Yesterday afternoon, while sitting around the turkey, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce, it was hard not to think about some of my friends who died in the last two years because of an overdose of opioids.
That's right, I said friends. Like in more than one.
Since 2017, I have to bid farewell to three friends who have died as a result of an opioid overdose.
All three became addicted to these problems fairly quickly and all three overdosed because they could not overcome their addiction.
These are people who have families.
They had friends, cousins, brothers and sisters.
And this year, they did not sit around the table for Thanksgiving.
They did not share the things they were grateful for.

But I'm not here to talk about my feelings.
