Iran has offered to help Denmark investigate "unfounded" allegations that the Iranian intelligence service intended to carry out an attack on Danish soil, the Iranian media reported.

Denmark recalled its ambassador to Iran earlier this week after Danish police accused Tehran of preparing attacks on Iranian exiles in the Scandinavian country, calling the situation "very serious".

On Saturday, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reiterated Tehran's refusal of any wrongdoing and said the accusations were simply "unfounded allegations".

"We see in this case a clear attempt by the Zionist regime [Israel] torpedo relations between Iran and the EU, "he said in a telephone conversation with his Danish counterpart Anders Samuelsen, according to the ISNA news agency.

Iran is willing to cooperate with the Danish security authorities in an investigation, he said, explaining that it was also essential for Tehran to clarify the circumstances of the "conspiracy".

The Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post reported that information about the alleged plot had been sent to Copenhagen by Mossad, the Israeli secret service.

Finn Borch Andersen, head of the Danish PET security service, said that a Norwegian national born in Iran was on remand because of the case. The suspect denies any involvement in a plot.

According to PET, the Iranian authorities had planned to target exiled members of a group called the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz – Iran (ASMLA).

Three members of the ASMLA are still under the protection of the Danish police, the "threats have not been eliminated," said Tuesday the head of PET.
