BASRA, Iraq (Reuters) – The Iraqi authorities imposed a curfew Saturday in Basra at 16:00 local time (13:00 GMT), according to a military statement.

Iraq's second-largest city was shaken by five days of deadly demonstrations in which government buildings were ransacked and burned by protesters angry over perceived political corruption.
