BASRA, Iraq (Reuters) – Protesters entered Lukoil's West Qurna 2 water treatment plant and held two Iraqi employees hostage Friday, according to a Lukoil source and an energy police source of Basra.
The West Qurna Oil Field 2 is 65 km northwest of Basra, a city stricken by days of protest. The field produces 390-4000000 barrels a day and a break of three days would be enough to completely close the field, added the source of Lukoil.
The water treatment facility maintains a supply of water to inject into the West Qurna 2 oil wells.
