The Irish Aviation Authority is investigating after an unidentified flying object was sighted by pilots flying over Ireland.
On the morning of November 9, the pilot of British Airways BA94 flight, based in Montreal, called Shannon air traffic control to report seeing an object moving beyond his aircraft and asking him if any military exercises were held off the west coast of Ireland.
"It was going so fast," she said. "He arrived on our left and then quickly turned north. It was a very bright light that disappeared at a very high speed. "
According to a recording of the conversation by Airlive, a site for enthusiasts, the pilot was informed that there were no military exercises in the area. "There is nothing that appears on the primary or secondary [radar], Said the air traffic control, according to the report.
The pilot stated that her plane and object were not on a collision course, but she wondered what that could be.
Other aircraft flying in the area reported the same thing. One pilot, flying a Virgin Airlines plane from Orlando to Manchester, described the view as a "meteor or other object doing some sort of reentry," adding that it was "several objects that follow the same type of trajectory – very bright, from where we were. "
Another pilot also intervened and said, "I'm glad I'm not the only one."
A spokesman for the Irish Aviation Authority told The Irish Times that he was investigating the incident and that he would be filing a report. "This report will be the subject of an investigation as part of the normal investigation process on a confidential event."
The spokesman added that it was unlikely to be aliens from another planet.
