Two of the smartest MMA strikers will meet in Australia.
ESPN.com has announced for the first time that former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (34-8 MMA, 17-4 UFC) and his rising rival, Israel Adesanya (15-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC), had been called to meet at UFC 234. which will take place on Sunday, February 10 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Due to the time change, the map is aired Saturday, February 9 in North America.
MMAjunkie then confirmed the reservation with the UFC representatives. Another person who knew the match, who requested anonymity, said that the agreements were yet to be finalized, but that all parties had accepted the contest.
Adesanya is currently ranked 8th in the US TODAY Sports / MMAjunkie middleweight rankings in the United States, while Silva is just behind 10th.
Adesanya, 29, made her UFC debut in February and is on an all-time high, winning against Rob Wilkinson, Marvin Vettori, Brad Tavares and, more recently, Derek Brunson. Three of these victories were also matched with Performance of the Night bonuses.
