Voting for the first phase of the four-phase municipal elections is underway, as part of a strict security device in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The election was boycotted by the two main parties of the state – the National Conference and the People's Democratic Party of Mehbooba Mufti
The state government and the electoral commission have put in place strict security measures in order to avoid any undesirable incident.
Voting takes place in 422 of the 1,100 municipal boroughs of the state. This started at 7 am and will continue until 4 pm.
