EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Like last season, the Jacksonville defense is the team.
Linebacker Myles Jack scored a 32-yard interception return early in the fourth quarter and the Jaguars spoiled the New York Giants' debut with coach Pat Shurmur and second overall draft pick , and the return of Odell Beckham Jr. 15 wins Sunday.
Blake Bortles had a short touchdown pass and two more first-half tries. The Jaguars dominated with the exception of Barkley-induced hiccups by opening a season by standing up to the hype of the Super Bowl.
Held in defeat a good part of the match, Barkley stepped on the ground shortly after Jack's landing with a spectacular 65-yard run, helped by receiver Sterling Shepard. New York played 20-15 with 10:39 to play.
New York opted for the conversion of 2 points and Barkley (18-Rushes for 106 yards) was stopped.
It proved costly when Beckham's 19 and 21-yard passes (11 catches for 111 yards in his first game since October) brought New York to Jacksonville 34. Instead of attempting that fourth goal from Aldrick Rosas, Eli Manning (23 of 37 for 224 yards) made a fourth save.
A muffled stick cost the Giants a last possession at the last minute.
The Jaguars led 13-6 at the half when Bortles methodically led his team on three points. Josh Lambo dominated the first two with 39-yard goals, and Bortles relied on TJ reinforcements. Yeldin 1 yard for a 13-3 lead.
Beckham, who suffered an ankle fracture on October 8 and did not play in a preseason game, inflicted two interference penalties in the ensuing race. Rosas filled the gap with a touchdown with a goal of 31 yards with: 04 remaining in the half. He added a 44-yard in the first set of the third quarter, thanks to a penalty from Yannick Ngakoue's head against Barkley.

Jaguars: The first running back Leonard Fournette left in the second quarter with a thigh problem. He finished with 41 yards.
Giants: Offensive half Wayne Gallman left in the second half after a knee injury.
