Lost in all the misery of the rotten season of the New York Mets is the fact that someone must represent this team at All Star Game. The lists will be revealed next Sunday, and the Mets should expect to have the minimum of a representative in Washington. While there has been a lot of debate over the All Stars for the Mets in recent years, there is a clear choice this year: starting pitcher Jacob deGrom.

Asdrubal Cabrera, who has a .284 record with 13 home runs and 44 RBIs, deserves a visit to D.C. as the best Mets player. Brandon Nimmo also enjoyed a good season, leading the Mets in OPS at .952 while skimming 12 homers and 25 RBIs mostly out of first place. If the Mets were a better team, these two would be more in the conversation about a trip to the All Star Game, but with the league unlikely to give more room to any of the Worst league teams, nor one of them DeGrom has been the best thrower of the national league (sorry Max Scherzer fans) this season, easily leading the league in ERA at 1.69, and could have a lot more than five wins he had a competent group. teammates around him. Assuming that he does not start the last game of the first half, which excludes any eligible pitcher from appearing in the Midsummer Classic, deGrom would likely be one of the first pitchers to appear in the competition. The only bright spot of the Mets for the rest of the course, watch DeGrom try and make a push for the Cy Young Award. DeGrom has certainly been worthy of this award, but Scherzer has already won 10 wins and nearly 40 strikeouts on bigger catches than DeGrom, so it will be a tough battle for the Mets. This discussion may change as the season progresses, but it is undeniable that deGrom will (probably) be the only one to visit the All Star Game this summer.
