HOUSTON – Rocket guard James Harden has been diagnosed with a grade 1 or higher strain in his left thigh and will miss at least the next two games, the team said Thursday afternoon.
Harden did not train on Thursday and underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, which allowed him to break out of Wednesday's loss against Utah Jazz (100-89 there remained only 5:19.
Harden will be re-evaluated before the Rockets Road Trip, which begins Nov. 2. He was dismissed from Friday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers and Tuesday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Harden, the most valuable player in the title, missed seven games in January of last season because of a knuckle of grade 2. Wednesday night, he was optimistic that this strain was not as serious .
"This is nothing serious, nothing serious," said Harden, who left the Toyota Center without limping. "This is nothing close to last year, just be careful."
Rockets starting small striker James Ennis III miss their second consecutive game on Friday because of a tension hamstring 2, and were also dismissed Tuesday. Coach Mike D'Antoni plans to start forward Carmelo Anthony for the first time this season against the Clippers.
Guard Chris Paul will be back in the Rockets formation against the Clippers after serving a two-game suspension following his fight with Los Angeles Lakers guard Rajon Rondo.
Houston, who recorded the best record of the NBA at 65-17 last season, stumbled on a score of 1-3.
"Obviously, we would like the team to be complete, but for now, we are sort of struggling with the injury virus," said Paul. "We just have to go beyond that and accumulate some wins, we'll just try to get through the storm, I'd rather it's now rather than April or something like that, we're just going to try to understand it."
