Jason Blum explains why he did not hire directors

Horror is experiencing a renaissance, thanks largely to the work of producer Jason Blum. He is the man behind Paranormal activity, get outand the next Halloween, but his production company Blumhouse has not yet hired a director to direct a horror film released in theaters. Matt Patches of Polygon asked Blum about this experience. Blum claimed that he was trying to work with a filmmaker on a horror film, but that he "did not have a lot of female directors at the time, let alone prone to horror. "" I am a massive admirer of[[[[Babadook director]Jennifer Kent, "he added. "I offered him all the available movies. She refused me every time. (Kent was not available to comment on Polygon's story.) Blum also told Polygon that he had proposed projects to Leigh Janiak, who had Honeymoon in 2014, but nothing had yet reunited (she also told Polygon that they had discussed various ideas). Until then, Blum should know that there are many other women directors who, you know, continue to exist.

Update from 17/10 to 23:42: Variety caught up with Blum on the red carpet at the premiere of Halloween, where he claimed that all these comments were a big mistake. "I totally messed up," said Blum. "I made a mistake about it. Our audience is 55% women; the executives of our company are composed of 50% women. I am passionate about hiring women and I totally made a mistake in representing that. We already work with a lot of women. "Chelsea Stardust, who is my old assistant, funded her first film, but I would like to work with more," he continued. "It's a great day for me because I learned a lot and there are a lot of women I'm going to meet as a result of today, I'm grateful for that."
