JaVale McGee agrees to sign with Lakers

The free agent center JaVale McGee has reached an agreement on a contract with the Lakers, according to a report by ESPN.

McGee, 30, chose the Lakers warriors, thunder and pelicans. McGee, who averaged 4.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game last season, probably could not command more Golden State than the veteran minimum. The parameters of his agreement with the Lakers, who sent shockwaves through the NBA earlier on Sunday by signing LeBron James to a $ 154 million deal for four years, are unknown.

Much of last season, when his playing time was sparse McGee stayed late after Warriors' training for 3-on-3 games, worked on the guards and forwards in defense, and trusted that his patience would be rewarded with more minutes. After his only action in the Western Conference final of seven games against Houston came late in a 41-point win, he remained ready, playing a key role in the Golden State's Cleveland NBA Golden Finals sweep. McGee went 6-for-6 from the field on five dunks and one hook shot. Three nights later, he did more of the same thing in the third game, needing only 14 minutes to score 10 points in a 5-on-7 shot.

McGee, who became a free agent unrestricted Saturday night, said I love returning to Golden State. But given the trend of the league, the Warriors probably do not need more than one or two prototypical centers. And every minute that McGee would have obtained are minutes that would not have been used to develop Damian Jones, who is ready for a shot at the rotation after two seasons in the G League.
