Jazz beat Spurs 92-76 in early summer league

The Spurs entered Utah Summer League with a loss of 16 points at the Jazz. Lonnie Walker was 3-16 on the field in his professional debut, while Derrick White was the best Spur Summer on the field, finishing with 22 points.

The Spurs started the game badly but quickly found a way to level things out. White leading the way at the beginning. Despite this mini-rally in the middle of the first quarter, they simply could not support their efforts to close the period, allowing the Jazz to take command of the match. Utah never abandoned it again.

During the second quarter, the Jazz took advantage over its lead, resembling the most aggressive and best prepared team. The offside movement that characterized the Spurs' best times in the first period was gone and the San Antonio defense just was not good enough to keep them in the game. A half of the Jazz led by 17 points.

With Walker struggling, the Spurs just did not have enough firepower to make a comeback. Second-year players and Austin Spurs alumni, Amida Brimah and Jaron Blossomgame, brought energy to the third quarter, but it was too late. The Jazz built on their lead in front of the bar of 20 points. The fourth quarter was waste time.

This was not a promising start for the Spurs. Not only did they lose by a big margin, but their first-round pick seemed rather ordinary. There is no reason to worry about Lonnie Walker, no matter how he plays in Utah or Las Vegas, but it would be nice to see Spurs' biggest selection since Tim Duncan seems a little more at home in a professional setting. There will be time for this later this summer, I hope.

Playing notes

• Derrick White looked awesome. As a leader of these summer Spurs, he is forced to play an important role in attack, but he has been able to deliver. White had 22 points and six assists, and he could have had a few extra dimes if his teammates had shot. The best part of his performance is that a lot of what he did well will probably translate the role he will play for the big club. His outside shot looks good, he can find the man open and he can play a solid defense on guards who are not much faster than him. It was an encouraging first game of White.
• Lonnie Walker just needs to find a rhythm and get used to a faster game. He was very passive at times, but still managed to have a terrific shot selection. In the first half, he seemed determined to get a three-point, which led him to take hard shots from outside instead of looking for better options. His grip was a bit loose and he did not really show his athleticism. It's early. I'm sure he'll do better on his next match. He certainly seems to have the right attitude.

• The potential of Chimeze Metu was in full screen. It was also his lack of strength, which is clearly a problem right now. Metu began to power ahead and seemed more comfortable at this position. Whenever he was the only great man on the floor, he was thrown by bigger centers. This is a problem, since that is the position that he will be asked to play in the NBA. Still, he seems to have good shooting blocking instincts and his outside shot seemed good in the three-point he tried, despite not entering.

• Jaron Blossomgame played power when the summer Spurs became small. things are going well. He is a clever screener who knows how to make himself available after making a choice. He had good chemistry in the pick and roll with White. I do not know how viable it is to play at this level at the NBA level, since it only has 6 "7, but it was nice to see it show

• No one else really stood out, and Drew Eubanks and Amida Brimah were productive, but did not look special – Raphiael Putney 's shot was Looks good, but he is too thin to play in. Jeff Ledbetter does a bit of everything but nothing particularly good.London Perrantes likes to dribble a lot.I do not expect that these guys be on the NBA lists next season, but they still have time to win a place.
• The other 2018 first-round pick on the ground has made its debut solid. Grayson Allen has struggled to score, but he showed his vision and finished on the boards, finishing with 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.He also did not trip, donate c overall, a good start for the Jazz rookie.
