Here are some examples:

BMW X7

Designed as a platinum ingot with a grille, this awesome SUV will offer three rows of seats to compete with the banks of rolling banks such as the Cadillac Escalade, the Lincoln Navigator and the Mercedes GL550. At 203.3 inches long, the X7 is 21 inches shorter than the three-row Escalade ESV. Features include standard air suspension, four-zone climate control, and a choice of 3.0-liter, six-cylinder, or 4.4-liter V8 engines. Built in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the X7 will go on sale in March.

BMW will unveil the Convertible Series 8 with a 4.4-liter V8 developing 530 horsepower. The M340i Sport Sedan also arrives to increase the power and performance of the new 3 Series.

Honda Passport

Honda expects this mid-size SUV to play a role in what is about to become a hypercompetitive segment: the five-passenger mid-size SUVs. For years, the Ford Edge and Nissan Murano had the segment for themselves, but the Passport and the Chevrolet Blazer are joining the party in the first half of 2019.

Ranked between Honda's CR-V compact SUVs and Pilot's three-row SUVs, the Passport will have more power and off-road capabilities, according to Honda.

Hyundai Palisade

This big SUV will become the flagship product of the Hyundai brand when it goes on sale next year. Expect a whole new style and a strong presence on the road from the vehicle, which replaces the terrifying Santa Fe XL as a Hyundai three-row family SUV. V6 power and a host of safety and driver assistance features are likely.

Jeep Gladiator

Expect a crew cabin almost identical to a four-door Wrangler Unlimited SUV and a five-foot bed on the first Jeep van in decades. Off-road capacity and towing will likely be the main selling points of the Gladiator. Fiat Chrysler's Mopar parts business is likely to have hundreds of accessories when the Gladiator goes on sale in early 2019.

Kia Soul

The design of the next generation of icons is one of the most difficult tasks of the automotive industry. Making a slightly larger copy will not work, but up to where can you push the envelope and change the design before losing the connection with the original?

The new soul 2020 must walk in this direction. Adding to the pressure, the Soul is almost unique in that it is both the icon of its brand and very affordable, with prices starting in 2019 to $ 16,490.

The new Soul will again offer several transmissions, including a turbo and an electric model.

Lincoln Aviator

Squeezing on a brand new rear-command-based architecture, the production version of Lincoln's new SUV promises many surprises in terms of engineering and performance. You can expect a luxurious and inventive Lincoln interior in a spacious package with a third row of casual seats and plenty of options. The Aviator is expected to reach dealers in the first half of 2019.

Mazda 3

The world's # 3 selling vehicle by Mazda, the # 3 is a relatively thoughtful product in the US market, focused on SUVs. The manufacturer hopes to change that with new looks, including a sedan and a sedan. The 3 uses an updated version of Mazda's Skyactiv architecture that will underpin most of the brand's vehicles.

Mazda will offer a lightweight hybrid for better performance and fuel economy. Other advances in fuel economy are also likely.

Porsche 911

A true global icon of the automotive industry, the 911 is the essence of all that makes Porsche unique: the handling of race cars; power that slams the head without a huge engine, sucking up fuel; and instantly recognizable looks.

Watch out for subtle updates to the classic 911 design and do not be surprised if many lessons from the 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid make the 911 the benchmark for efficiency and performance.

Toyota Corolla

The 12th generation Corolla switches to the builder's new global architecture, but its deep grille and short trunk will be familiar with the current model. The Prius, the Camry and the 2019 RAV4 also use the architecture.

Toyota will offer a hybrid Corolla for the first time. Expect a lower price and lower fuel economy, the main distinctions between the Corolla Hybrid and Toyota's own Prius.

Standard safety features will include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane departure alert.

The Prius itself is waiting to be updated, possibly with a full transmission model.
