US Attorney General Jeff Sessions Monday appointed a senior federal prosecutor on Long Island in a new task force targeting the MS-13 street gang and other criminal groups transnational organizations.
US Deputy Attorney John Durham of the East District of New York was one of five federal prosecutors from across the country appointed to the new Transnational Crime Task Force.
"AUSA Durham played an important role in the FBI Task Force on Long Island, which arrested hundreds of MS-13 members," Sessions said in a Washington task force announcement, according to prepared remarks.
According to his statements, he asked the subcommittees to make "specific recommendations" in the next 90 days "on the best ways to prosecute these gangs and remove them from our streets," according to his statement.
A spokesman for the US Attorney's Office in Central Islip, where Durham has been working for about 13 years on his LinkedIn page, did not immediately comment.
