Jeff Sessions, Robert De Niro and Adele: SNL cold opening brings back a guest star (and gives a punch)

Since the beginning of Trump's presidency, "Saturday Night Live" focuses on the news of the administration for its cold opening. This week was not different. But instead of commenting on the mid-term elections or Trump's insulting behavior towards journalists – especially African American women – he chose to focus on the resignation of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions. .

The sessions ended last Wednesday at the request of President Trump. Many think that Trump was angry because Sessions has recused himself after "investigations related to the 2016 presidential campaign," led by special advocate Robert S. Mueller III.

In keeping with this season's trend, the skit did not include an elaborate amount of guest stars – with the exception of one. (We'll get there.) Instead, the sketch was mainly a showcase of SNL's biggest imitations of the political elite.

It all starts with Sarah Sanders, of Aidy Bryant, who enters the Sessions office. It – the cartoons of Kate McKinnon – hides in an office at the time. ("I was hiding in the hope of giving the new attorney general a real fright," he says.)

"This is Matthew G. Whitaker's office, Jeff," Sanders tells him.

Then he begins to seriously sing Adele 's harrowing anthem, "Someone Like You," while images of old sketches with McKinnon' s Sessions and Alec Baldwin 's Trump appear at the same time. ;background.

Finally, they hug and sing together Adele's hymn.

After being criticized for using too many stars last year, SNL's choice to bring back De Niro is interesting. This does not necessarily mean that the series is getting back to its starting point, because it's cold, but that certainly raises the question. Last year everyone from Ben Stiller to Stormy Daniels appeared at the opening of the series. Does this happen again? Only time will tell.
