Josh McCown must make his first start of the season for the Jets Sunday.

Sam Darnold is injured and will be eliminated as a starter against the Bills, Head Coach Todd Bowles said today. Bowles added, however, that it was still possible for Darnold to be active as a McCown replacement.

Darnold struggled to get treatment and injured his foot on Sunday, which limited him this week. That leaves the Jets to McCown, the only other quarter on their list of 53 men.

Given Darnold's poor performance over the past few weeks, McCown could actually be an added bonus for the Jets' chances on Sunday against a team of bad bills. McCown is not an excellent quarterback, but he is probably competent enough to limit turnovers while the Jets' defense should feast on Buffalo's terrible offense.

It seems likely that the Jets would remind Davis Webb of their training team if they decided to add another quarter to their list of 53 men.
