The Milwaukee Brewers are one of the National Champions League games for the first time since 2011 after defeating the Rockies 4-0 in Game 2 of the best-of-five Division NL at Miller Park.

For the second straight game, the Brewers pitching staff shut down the Rockies lineup. Jhoulys Chacin, starting on three days, was allowed to be scoreless innings, allowing three hits.

Hernan Perez provided the Brewers with a run in the fourth inning, Mike Moustakas. They scored three insurance runs, including a broken-bat two-run single by dayneyman Erik Kratz, in the eighth to take a 4-0 lead. The bullpen closed it out.

Kratz, 38, also made some history. The catcher became the oldest position player to start his postseason debut since 1905 (Cross Wash, third baseman, Philadelphia A's).

"I hit home in the Triple-A playoffs one time," he said. "That was pretty cool."

The Rockies offense has been scuffling against the Brewers, batting .156 in the series. It has produced two runs and 10 hits in 19 innings and has gone 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the series.

Three of its All-Stars – Charlie Blackmon, third baseman Nolan Arenado and shortstop Trevor Story – are struggling. They are a combined 3-for-23 in the series. Blackmon is 1-for-8 with an RBI and Trevor Story, who slugged 37 homers during the regular season, is 0-for-8 and Arenado is 2-for-7.

Man of the moment

For the second straight start, Chacin answered the call. He was not as good as he was on Monday against the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central tiebreaker game, but he got the job done. He tossed five scoreless innings, holding the Rockies to three hits and three walks while striking out three.

State of the series

The Brewers are one game from their first playoff series since 2011. They will be able to turn Miley's Wade for Game 3 on Sunday in Denver. He was one of the club's most consistent pitchers, going 5-2 with a 2.57 ERA in 16 starts. In September, he was 3-0 with a 3.52 ERA in five starts. The Rockies will counter with German Marquez. He went 14-11 with a 3.77 ERA and last pitched on Monday in a Los Angeles Dodgers loss in the NL West tiebreaker game.

What you missed on TV

The Rockies' frustration at the flat has boiled over. Catcher Chris Iannetta snapped his bat on his knee after striking out the third inning with the tying run at third base.
