At one evening, the Charlotte Hornets celebrated the best players in the 30-year history of the franchise. Kemba Walker has eclipsed them all. So Jimmy Butler spoiled the show.
Walker scored 60 points in the Hornets defeat 122-119 in overtime against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. But it was a key possession late in the overtime for which Walker did not score who sentenced the Hornets.
The score being tied at 119 and under 30 seconds, Walker rolled the right side of the lane against Butler and stood high for a float. Butler rose just a little higher and blocked the shot. He then did a stunt save to keep the ball out of bounds.
After a break to set up a final game, Butler timed the clock and managed a 3-point loss with less than a second to give Philadelphia the win.
Walker shot 21 times out of 34 overall, including 6 of 14 by 3 points and 12 out of 12 free throws. He added seven rebounds, four assists and four interceptions.
Butler finished with 15 points in his third game with the 76ers. Joel Embiid scored 33 goals, including 18 in the first quarter, and Ben Simmons and J.J. Redick added 23 each.
