There is a tacit rule in the world of basketball. When a team starts to trade a player, it almost always keeps him out of the game (if they have one) as the discussions multiply. On Friday, the Minnesota Timberwolves, who were recently offered a contract with four first-round picks for Jimmy Butler of the Houston Rockets, will face the Milwaukee Bucks.
And within hours of the match, the Timberwolves added Jimmy Butler to the injury report as a questionable question for the match with an illness. Maybe Butler is really sick, but it seems a bit surprising that the news, which has been reported by ESPN's Malika Andrews, arrived just before 14h EST.
This does not mean that an exchange will take place, even if the Timberwolves are in the thick of their discussions with the Rockets or another team. But one wonders if Butler is sick or about to be treated. Time will tell, but for the moment, we will have to play the game of waiting until the team game goes off.
Evaluation of Rockets' recent offer
It is not surprising that the Timberwolves rejected Houston's latest bid. Athletic's Shams Charania Marquese Chriss and Brandon Knight were chosen. But since Minnesota are determined to get a return to remain a playoff team, that would not have achieved that goal.
The fact that the Rockets are likely to be a competitor in the foreseeable future means that the choices Minnesota would choose are no better than the top 25 of the year. Not only would Timberwolves fail to endow an instant-impact game maker to replace Butler, but their upcoming additions would almost certainly be players with question marks.
