Joe Jackson talks about his fight against terminal cancer for the first time.
The patriarch of pop music hinted at his health on Sunday in an enigmatic tweet, writing: "I've seen more sunsets than I have left to see.The sun comes up when comes the time, whether you like it or not, the sun sets when the time comes. "
Jackson 's tweet was accompanied by a photo of the 89 – year – old man who was looking at the ocean and stood at a rail while the sun was setting in the distance.
As the tweet became viral Sunday, fans sent greetings to Jackson, with a Twitter user writing: "Stay strong Mr. Jackson, you have brought such wonderful music into our lives through your wonderful family."
Jackson was also in the spirit of her daughter Janet Jackson Friday, when she praised her "unbelievable" father while accepting the Impact Radio Award of the 2018 Disney Music Awards.

Joe fought the disease "for a while," TMZ reported Friday, but he is "at the end of the stages" and "cancer can not be treated."
Members of his family, including his 88-year-old wife, Katherine Jackson, have been at his bedside, sources told TMZ. Jackson's children and grandchildren also made visits.

The representatives of Jackson, as well as various members of the Jackson family, did not immediately return PEOPLE's request for comment.
Jackson posted for the last time a video of himself on June 6, explaining that he was at Jamba Juice – where the music of his late son Michael Jackson was playing – and that he was having a hard time choosing what to order. "There are so many choices to make," he writes. "With the music of my son Michael in the background, I want to start … to drink all three."

This is not the first time that the patriarch of the Jackson family has been found hospitalized. In recent years, he has struggled with several health problems – including a stay in May 2016 due to a high fever.
In November 2012, he recovered from a minor stroke at his Las Vegas home. Three years later, his daughter Janet had to do rehearsals Unbreakable World Tour waiting when he suffered another stroke and cardiac arrhythmia in Brazil during his 87th birthday in July 2015.
In June 2017, he was released from hospital after a car accident in Las Vegas.

Joe and his wife Katherine had 10 children together: Maureen, 68, Jackie, 67, Tito, 64, Jermaine, 63, La Toya, 62, Marlon, 61, Randy, 56 and Janet.
His son Michael died of an apparent cardiac arrest at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009. Son Brandon died at birth in 1957.
Joe is also the father of Joh's Vonnie Jackson, 43, the daughter of Cheryl Terrell, with whom he had a 25-year relationship. Katherine filed for divorce twice but never had separation.
