It's official! Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are no longer just co-hosts of "Morning Joe" – they are also husband and wife.

A spokesman for the duo confirmed this happy news to TODAY.

The small event took place in Washington, in a place particularly appropriate for the former Congressman and Brzezinski – the National Archives -, the Constitution, the Charter of Rights and the Declaration of Independence serving as a backdrop to the ceremony.

The boyfriend of the couple "Morning Joe" – and our own presenter on Sunday TODAY – Willie Geist could not attend the ceremony (because of the "very early morning television" the next day), but he talked about marriage which took place on Monday.

"Joe and Mika are away today and this week, why do you ask, they had a very busy weekend," he said early on the show, before sharing a couple of details with the viewers. "Joe and Mika were surrounded by all their children, which made them very special for them."

In addition to four children from Scarborough and his two children, from previous marriages, family on both sides and a small group of close friends gathered to attend their union.

"We wanted it to be really small and simple and not what you expected from Mika and Joe," said the bride, who was wearing a long white tea dress covered with a thin polka dot lace, said on Saturday. Vanity Fair. "Everything we do is exposed, and everything has been felt at every stage of the process, so we want it to be private until it's over." We wanted to recognize it more silently and let the most important people we around us. "

Keeping the short list of guests was only one way, it was said, that the event would remain secret in advance. They shared with the publication that the invitations had been extended by phone calls rather than by hard copies, that the bookings had been made under the name of a friend and that the Thanksgiving weekend date had been chosen for the rare time without scrambling that she brings to Washington.

Scarborough added, "We made the decision a year ago to radically change our lives and have a quiet existence, the more we can spend time with our family, the happier we are."

And they were clearly happy on Saturday – as were the people present.

Representative Elijah Cummings, a former Scarborough colleague, presided at the wedding. He then tweeted "it was a pleasure" to do it.

Shortly after the wedding, rather than sharing a wedding photo, Brzezinski turned to Instagram with a picture of her holding a small amphibian in a hurry.

In the legend, she simply writes: "I kissed the frog."

This marriage is the third for Scarborough, 55, and the second for Brzezinski, 51. They have been working side by side on "Morning Joe" for over 11 years and announced their commitment last spring.
