Joe Scarborough believes President Donald Trump will leave the White House in January 2021 – of his choice.
In an interview with "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Thursday night, he was asked to MSNBC's "Morning Joe" cohort that he thought a Republican would challenge Trump for the party's nomination at the ### 39, presidential election of 2020.
"I think so," said Scarborough. "But I repeat: I do not think they'll have to fight to face Donald Trump because I do not think Donald Trump will be running for reelection."
"He did not want to be elected president, he did not think he was going to be elected president, he did not even think he would get the Republican nomination, he was going to withdraw his money."
Colbert said that he thought "it would be a smart thing to do for him".
When audience members started laughing, Colbert said, "I'm serious."
"I'll tell you why I do not want that to happen," continued Colbert. Scarborough was not in agreement.

Scarborough's opinion on the possibility of Trump's reelection is remarkable, as the two were very close.
When he announced his candidacy in 2015, Trump was a frequent guest on the Scarborough show.
But during the campaign, Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, his cohort, became more critical of Trump and in turn became the target of some of his worst tweets.
In an opinion piece published in August 2016 in the Washington Post, Scarborough called on the Republican Party to get rid of Trump as a candidate. He later questioned his mental capacity to perform his duties.
And during another appearance at the "Late Show" in July 2017, Scarborough announced that he was considering leaving the Republican party to become independent.
