COSTA MESA, Calif. – LA Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa did not train for a second day in a row and was dismissed from the opening game Sunday against the Chiefs of the United States. Kansas City due to a left foot injury.
According to the Chargers, Bosa's left foot injury a month ago has healed and he suffered a new injury on the same foot in Wednesday's practice.
The head coach of the loaders, Anthony Lynn, said that Bosa is week after week and that his foot is not broken. According to Lynn, Bosa was on the field, going through individual exercises and feeling that something was wrong in her left foot.
Bosa declined to comment on the injury when she was approached by reporters in the locker room after Friday's training.
"It's very frustrating," Lynn said. "He's been waiting for a while to get back on the pitch and he's doing what he can, he just wants to be there with his teammates, he's very frustrated right now."
Bosa suffered the initial injury, described by Lynn as a sore foot, on Aug. 7 in 11 of 11 practice training in practice. Subsequently, Bosa left the field on his own and spent the rest of the practice getting treatment from the team's training staff.
Bosa did not participate in any pre-season games. However, the Chargers considered his injury minor and hoped that he would be ready for the start of the regular season.
All this changed Thursday, when Lynn said that Bosa might not play Sunday after being a limited participant in the training on Wednesday.
"Foot injuries, they take all the weight off the body," Lynn said this week. "It can be tricky, something you do not want to rush in. You want to make sure it's right before a player comes back."
With the release of Bosa, second-year pro Isaac Rochell is likely to start the defensive game.
Rochell started the four pre-season games for the Chargers at the end of the defense in Bosa's place, finishing with nine combined tackles and two sacks. "The pre-season debut has given me the confidence of who I am as a player, and let me develop as a starter," Rochell said.
The Chargers were also looking to add depth to the end of the defense this week. ESPN Insider Field Yates reports that according to one source, the Chargers were one of four teams to file a waiver request on Anthony Zettel – published by the Detroit Lions – with Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. Cleveland had the priority of the waiver thread.
# 3 in the 2016 draft, Bosa led the Chargers in bag last season with 12.5 points and is half of the talented tandem Chargers, consisting of Melvin Ingram, who finished with 10.5 bags a year latest.
