John Dorsey will lead Cleveland Browns' coaching research

General Manager John Dorsey will lead the search for the next Cleveland Browns head coach, a spokesman for the team said Wednesday.

The next coach will replace Hue Jackson, who was fired Oct. 29, a day after a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The final decision on coach selection will be made by Dorsey and owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam, with Dorsey's recommendation weighing heavily.

The decision is important because Jimmy and Dee Haslam led the search to hire Jackson and Jimmy Haslam helped Joe Banner hire Mike Pettine and Rob Chudzinski. For various reasons, mostly not enough wins, none of the coaches lasted three years.

Dorsey's experience in scouting and player staff gives him strong connections in the NFL and college football. He has not yet commented on how he could proceed with the research.

The next hiring of the Browns will inherit some key pieces that could lead to a winning team, powered by a Baker Mayfield quarterback, a Myles Garrett henchman, a half corner from Denzel Ward and talented defenders Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson Jr.

In the best case, the good coach could bring the team together to succeed in the future.

The future organizational structure of the team after the new hiring remains to be determined. Jimmy Haslam had previously asked the coach and the general manager / vice president to report back to him. Asking the coach to report to Dorsey would be an option.
