John Cosso was accused of abducting his son, Jayce Cosso.
An Amber alert was issued in California for a 6-year-old boy named Jayce Cosso. Police in Modesto, California, said the child's father, John Cosso, had forcibly taken the child on Monday, September 23rd. The boy's mother, Kimberly Valente, described in detail this violent ordeal.

1. Jayce's aunt stated that the child had asked her father not to take her from her mother
The Modesto Police Service released the photo above of Jayce, 6 years old. The last time he was seen, he wore a black Transformers t-shirt and faded green camouflage shorts.
According to the Alert Amber, Jayce is about 2 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 34 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
Police said Jayce was abducted from his mother's home at around 7:30 am on Monday, September 23, by his father, John Cosso. His aunt, Vanessa Valente, told KCRA-TV that Jayce had asked his father not to remove him from his mother. She said at the press briefing that Jayce said, "Please, daddy. I do not like you. You are not my friend.
2. Jayce's mother, Kimberly Valente, said that her son was pulled off the arm and described the problem in detail in the local newspaper.
Kimberly Valente, Jayce's mother, described the kidnapping in the local newspaper Modesto Bee. She described John Cosso as his separate boyfriend. She said that one of the young men who helped Cosso take Jayce was Cosso's 17-year-old son, Dominic.
Valente said the situation began with a knock on the door. It was a stranger claiming to be from the gas company. But Valente said she noticed Dominic's vehicle in the driveway and became suspicious. She and her sister, Marlisa Angervil, locked the door. She said it was when the three men started beating at the door. The three older sons of Valente were also at home and tried to keep the door closed.
Valente shouted to her sister to call the police while she was trying to take Jayce. But she said the men forced the passage inside, passing by the others using pepper spray. Meanwhile, Valente had reached his car with Jayce. She tried to leave, but one of the other cars was blocking her.
Valente told the newspaper that Cosso and the other two men had hit the windows of the car. Another family member told the police that one of the men grabbed a toolbox, broke the driver's side window, and tore Jayce off his mother's arms.
3. Valente allegedly worked to obtain sole custody of Jayce
Kimberly Valente said that John Cosso was his boyfriend and that they shared Jayce's custody. But she would have worked to get sole custody of her son and recently hired a lawyer.
A family member told the Modesto Bee that Cosso had a history of violence. He reportedly had physical contact with Valente and was accused of raping two other women. They also stated that he had abused Jayce and that he was emotionally violent.
Online court records for Stanislaus County do not show recent custody records as of September 23, 2018. But records show that Valente appears to have sued Cosso in 2014 for alimony. The case was filed in the family court under the name of "miscellaneous petition of custody and alimony". The case was dismissed in 2017. An interesting detail emerges from November 2016, when there appears to have been a spousal abuse hearing. Online registration does not disclose the details of what motivated such a hearing.
4. John Cosso is described as having tattoos on his face
John Cosso would have distinct characteristics. The Amber Alert states that Cosso currently has a shaved head and tattoos on her face, but the photo published by the police does not appear to show any tattoo. He is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds. The alert has not issued any information about the clothes.
5. Police: John Cosso was seen driving a 2012 Black Ford Fusion
The California Highway Patrol released Monday night the Amber Alert for Jayce Cosso. It is in force for the following counties: Stanislais, San Joaquin, Sacramento, Contra Costa, Alameda and Santa Clara.
