In the last episode of his weekly commentary, John Oliver criticized Florida's policies governing the restoration of voting rights of convicted criminals.

Oliver, speaking of "Last Week Tonight," said Florida's regulations were stricter than most other states. About 1.5 million people can not vote because of their crime convictions, Oliver said. As of July 2017, Florida's population was estimated at nearly 21 million, with more than 16 million adults. This would mean that almost 10% of the adult population does not have the right to vote.

Oliver called it "taxation without representation".

He also criticized the panel of four Florida members who checks whether a criminal will regain the right to vote. This commission includes state governor Rick Scott.
