COMEDIAN John Oliver has performed a wild smackdown on the WWE and his long-term contract with Saudi Arabia.
In a week that saw the disappearance of Washington Post Journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who strongly criticized his government, thanked WWE for its close relationship with the nation.
Saudi Arabia denied any wrongdoing at the time of the disappearance.
WWE recently signed a 10-year contract with the Saudi General Sports Authority and held its first event in the country, the largest royal gathering in Jeddah, in April, which drew a crowd of 60,000 people.
A WWE statement said: "We are currently watching the situation."
But Oliver does not stop and slammed the promotion for his position on Saudi Arabia.
"The public relations of MBS (Saudi Prince Mohammed Bin Salman) are not only aimed at attracting businesses, they are also aimed at changing the perception of Saudi Arabia by the world," Oliver said.
"To that end, he signed a 10-year deal with one of the world's most popular and most American franchises: World Wresting Entertainment, or WWE.
"They staged their first of many protests there in April, and the public around the world was treated with utter propaganda about the new Saudi Arabia, including a video of women driving happily, men dancing and beauty photos of tourist destinations, as well as constant excited compliments throughout the broadcast. "
After airing part of the April issue of the country in which commentators praise the country, superstar John Cena thanks the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Oliver added the punchline.
"Sensational, it seems that WWE is as openly pro-Saudi as it is recently homoerotic, that is, intensely."
This did not stop there for the WWE, which later in the series clung to the statement that WWE was "watching the situation".
"As for the WWE, while she says she's watching the situation, her gigantic Crown Jewel event is still scheduled for November, which means that John Cena may well be back there, which I guess in this context, means you do not see them human rights right here, "said Oliver waving his hand in front of his face.
Shawn Michaels, a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, had accepted a lucrative offer to retire and compete at Crown Jewel. He was about to team up with Triple H, a DX partner, to face The Undertaker and Kane.
Brock Lesnar will also be in action as he tries to recover the universal title of Roman Reigns in a triple threat also including Braun Strowman.
Although WWE has not yet announced its intentions, references to Saudi Arabia have been removed from the list of events.
