Jordan Belliveau was more than a boy in an Amber Alert.
This is what his former adoptive parents, Sam and Juliet Warren, want the public to know about the 2-year-old who disappeared at the weekend and was found dead Tuesday in Largo.
Her biological mother, Charisse Stinson, 21, is charged with first degree murder and severe child abuse upon her death.
The couple spoke to members of the media on Wednesday with the following statement about the child:
"Jordan came to us in January 2017 and was returned to his mother on May 31, 2018.
We loved Jordan and we are devastated by his loss.
We want you to know Jordan a little bit as we know it. He was not just the "boy with the Ambre Alert".
He learned to ride in our house. I remember that my mother helped her learn to crawl. Jordan learned to walk and talk in our family.
He flourished and grew up in a community that loved him deeply too. He was loved by all of our family, the LifeBridge Church community, the Coast Guard community and the Door of Hope home placement community.
Jordan was filled with joy. Most people knew the Jordan who was laid back with an easy smile and a sparkle in his eyes. He was our 'Mr. Chuckles. Like most little boys, we also saw Jordan's mischievous side.
We are devastated by his loss, but for a court order, he would always be safe with us.
We hope that the loss of Jordan will bring about the change necessary to protect other children at risk in the system. Jordan failed through the system. Many people who should have protected him, but did not do it. The promises we made about how he would be protected after his return were broken.
Ultimately, we hope that our painful loss will result in a fundamental re-examination of the entire system, the operation of the foster family, the reunification process. Jordan deserves it and the other children of the system deserve it.
In closing, we need time to mourn. Please respect our privacy and give us the space we need. We will no longer give statements to the press. Thank you."
