SMITHVILLE, Missouri –
A teenager is fighting a life-altering illness and she does not even know what it is about.
The mystery surprised medical professionals and blinded Jordyn Walker, 15 years old.
According to WDAF last summer, Jordyn was on a cruise with her family. But when she came back, her medical nightmare began.
It started with stomach pain and bloody stools.
The doctors ran tests and sent her home, thinking that it was only a sinus infection.
Jordyn ended up losing his sense of taste and smell.
This led to multiple visits by specialists and tons of tests.
"Everything came back normally," said Kendyll Walker, Jordyn's mother.
When the disease subsided, some family members learned that it was an "one in a million" episode that would probably never happen again.
But two weeks before Christmas, Jordyn's medical mystery was more serious than ever.
"My whole face has turned purple, bruised and bloody," she said.
His mother said it was scary not to know what was going on.
"It was terrifying to see this happen again and to know that we could not do anything about it," said Kendyll Walker.
This time, Jordyn went to the hospital emergency room at the University of Kansas and found himself in pediatric intensive care.
A 16-day hospitalization with more tests, medications and two surgical procedures to reduce eye swelling followed.
And the doctors still could not tell what had happened to him.
"There are no answers, they can not do anything," Walker said.
The cause of Jordyn's strange symptoms has not been resolved and the teenager now suffers from permanent blindness.
"She will not have the chance to drive," said "Kendyll Walker."
The skilled archer and aspiring journalist knows things will never be the same again, but she is determined to maintain a positive attitude.
"I will not let that stop me," Jordyn said.
The family is grateful for the support they have received.
"You feel like you're not alone," Jordyn said.
They just hope someone can help them find answers, and finally help Jordyn heal.
