Josh Gordon's first touchdown with the Patriots looked like Randy Moss in 2007

Josh Gordon scored the first touchdown of his Patriots career Thursday night in their 38-24 win over the Colts of Indianapolis. It was just his second game with the team, who had traded it a few weeks ago giving the Cleveland Brown a fifth-round pick. At his peak in 2013, Gordon led the league with 1,646 yards even though he missed two games.

Gordon is so talented that the trade has prompted some comparisons of the one made by Randy Moss by Belichick before the 2007 season. That sounds a bit ambitious since Moss is a Hall of Fame in the first poll, but there is a comparison that deserves to be made: the reception of Gordon's 34-yard touchdown was strangely like a play played by Randy Moss with the Patriots in 2007.

The 35-yard touchdown from Moss and Gordon's 34-yard touchdown had the same dynamic. In both games, Tom Brady was under pressure and launched an uprising of last resort in the end zone. Both receivers were sandwiched between two defenders before catching the ball. AND both games took place in the same corner of the end zone.

Gordon's landing was also special for another reason: it was the 500th touchdown of Brady's career and he became the 71st player to record a Brady touchdown, an NFL record.

After the match, Brady is satisfied with the progress made by Gordon and the fact that this type of game requires a lot of confidence.

Josh made a good game by jumping over two defenders. This tells you the type of confidence I have in a very short time. You know, he deserved it and happy to see him play.

Gordon had only four targets in the match, catching two for 50 yards and the aforementioned touchdown. The Colts made a one-point game, but Gordon's touchdown scored 14 points for the Patriots in the fourth quarter, making the return attempt difficult for the Colts even before Sony's race to challenge game out of reach.

That's why New England chose Gordon – this may be the serious missing threat in the Patriots offensive they lost when they traded Brandin Cooks to the Los Rams Angeles. Gordon's so low price also helped.

I hope this is a sign of the future for Gordon, who has struggled to stay on the ground because of injuries and drug suspensions. As he showed the world on Thursday night, he has the talent to be a wide impact receiver in the league – he just needs to be available.
