Julia Louis-Dreyfus feels good after defeating cancer

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is doing well. Last year, the actress revealed that she had breast cancer; a little after, Veep paused when Louis-Dreyfus struggled with his illness. But on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Thursday night, Louis-Dreyfus revealed that she was cancer free, back to work and felt good. Even better? On Sunday, Louis-Dreyfus will accept the Mark Twain Award, the highest honor that a comedian can receive. When asked how she felt, Louis-Dreyfus did not miss a beat and replied, "I feel very strong."

Throughout her illness, Louis-Dreyfus has been very open about social media, partly because, as she told Kimmel, Veep production had to slow down, making the confidentiality of his illness more difficult. "Then I simply took this approach and I had a lot of positive feedback," said Louis-Dreyfus. "I think people liked the fact that I have a sense of humor about it, and I think it's an important conversation about health and health care." Louis-Dreyfus said that really believe him now.

On Sunday, Louis-Dreyfus will accept the Mark Twain Award for American Humor, a prize awarded to performers whose Whoopi Goldberg, Bob Newhart, Steve Martin, Ellen DeGeneres, Tina Fey, Carol Burnett, and last year David Letterman. The price itself is an honor, of course, but the speech of Louis-Dreyfus is nervous. "It looks like they're rewarding you for your humor and they're saying now, at the same time," Prove now that you deserve it with this speech! She said.

And of course, Louis-Dreyfus and Kimmel also discussed Veep– Who opens his seventh and last season next year. Dreyfus described the end-of-show experience as "bitter-sweet".

"I love these people," said Louis-Dreyfus. "And I love the show and what we were able to achieve with it."

When asked if there was one scene in particular that seemed to him the funniest, Louis-Dreyfus rethought at one point in Season 6, when Gary (Tony Hale), convalescing after a heart attack, remains in the basement of Selina. She prepares him spaghetti with a cut-out sandwich and sits next to him on a single bed while he eats it. Louis-Dreyfus said the two men were struggling to stay together as Gary complimented the use of blue cheese in the dish – and Selina revealed that in reality there was no Blue cheese anywhere in the dish.

"You can not imagine how long it took us to get it," said Louis-Dreyfus. "We were screaming."

Unfortunately, each show must end, but as Veep Near the finish line, we know at least to be able to count on Louis-Dreyfus in the years to come.
