The actress, who won an Oscar, will perform the mythical character Karathen in the Washington film, which should be released at the same time as the sequel to Andrews' film in 1964.

Aquaman welcomes a surprise star in the film as Julie Andrews is to play a key role in the upcoming Warner Brothers movie, The Hollywood journalist can confirm.

The Oscar-winning actress will perform the legendary character Karathen, described as a creature holding the key that can help Arthur Curry's mission (Jason Momoa) create peace between Atlantis and the mainland.

Andrews cast is rather ironic since the DC movie will be released two days after the release of Disney. Mary Poppins is back, following the Andrews movie in 1964. Although Dick Van Dyke resumes his role in the new film, Andrews will not be on the bill. Instead, Emily Blunt will assume the lead role of Poppins.

This role will mark the first appearance of Andrews in a film in almost ten years. Over the years, the actress has lent her voice to animated projects such as the film Despicable Me franchise and Shrek forever in 2010.

EW was the first to report the news.
