Julie Chen withdraws from "The Talk" on CBS, a week after her husband Les Moonves left CBS Corporation under pressure.
Chen's decision is effective immediately, according to two sources close to her. She will address the decision through a videotaped message to viewers during Tuesday's episode.
"She decided that her main goal should be to eliminate her husband's name from accusations made 25-30 years ago and to care for her son," said one of the sources.
The sources said it will continue to host the CBS reality show "Big Brother".
A spokesman for CBS did not respond to a request for comment Monday night.
When Moonves, CBS's powerful president and CEO, was charged with sexual misconduct in the New Yorker's pages in late July, Chen publicly supported her husband and said she would issue only one statement on the topic .
In the statement, which she tweeted, she said: "Leslie is a good man and an affectionate father, a devoted husband and an inspiring business leader .He has always been a kind, decent human being and moral behind him and his statement. "
A second New Yorker story by Ronan Farrow was published on September 9th. By that time, Moonves had already started exit negotiations with CBS. The company confirmed its release later in the day.
Moonves denied the allegations and claimed that all this was part of a "concerted effort" to shoot him down. The day he left CBS, he said that "false allegations made several decades ago are now made against me, which are not compatible with who I am".
Moonves' allies described his astonishing start following a battle between Moonves and CBS majority shareholder Shari Redstone.
But it has been widely viewed as the result of allegations of harassment and aggression detailed in Farrow's stories.
Chen took leave of "The Talk" when Moonves' departure was announced. In the show, his co-hosts reacted to the news. It seemed unlikely that she would come back on the board, given the obvious tension that would exist each time the facilitators discussed the #MeToo movement.
When Chen did not show up at Monday's episode, speculation about his output increased.
The Six page reported Monday night that she was leaving the show but said "a date for her release has not been fixed yet".
By signing a videotaped message, Chen avoids embarrassing conversation with his longtime co-hosts.
The sources said that she had decided to leave the talk show after spending time with her family last week.
Chen publicly defended her husband by signing "Big Brother" last Thursday by saying "I'm Julie Chen Moonves". In the past, she had not used her last name.
