Justin Bieber asks to become a US citizen: a report

Just after the news that Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin were linked, a new report indicates that the singer "Love Yourself" is working to become a US citizen.

Bieber, who was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, has applied for dual citizenship, according to TMZ, citing several sources.

The 24-year-old star has lived in the United States since the age of 13, when he moved with his family to Atlanta. According to TMZ, he currently divides his time between Los Angeles, New York and Ontario, where he has a heritage of $ 5 million.

To obtain citizenship, the US government requires the applicant to have a permanent resident card (green) for at least five years. One must be at least 18 years old, be able to "read, write and speak basic English" and be "a person of good character," says USA.gov.

A 10-step naturalization process is then proposed to determine eligibility. This includes the preparation and submission of an N-400 form, the application for naturalization, as well as the personal interview and the US naturalization test.

Several sources confirmed Friday that Beiber and Baldwin, 21, were married in a civil ceremony Thursday in a New York court.

"They went ahead and did it without listening to anyone," PEOPLE told a source close to the couple.

A religious source told the family and confirmed to PERSON that she was legally married at the courthouse, but that she would soon be celebrating a religious ceremony with her family and friends. "They are going to have a big eruption before God and everyone they like," the religious source told PEOPLE.

On Thursday, Bieber and Baldwin were seen entering a courthouse where marriage licenses are issued, according to a photo obtained by TMZ. The outlet also reported that the couple seemed extremely emotional, Bieber saying to Baldwin, "I can not wait to marry you, baby.

According to the point of sale, Justin told a court official, "Thank you for keeping it on the DL."

Despite PEOPLE's confirmation of the ceremony, Baldwin said on Friday that she did not consider herself a married woman – for now.

"I understand the origin of the speculation, but I'm not married yet!" Writes the template in a tweet deleted since.

A friend of the couple told PEOPLE Baldwin "feels a civil ceremony and their" real "marriage are two separate things."

Addition of a religious source: "What happened at the courthouse is a court case – a legal thing. But marriage is two people who make a vow before God and the people they love. "

Meanwhile, the duo's blitz is no surprise, as a source close to Bieber told PEOPLE in July that the pop star and his fiancée of his day preferred a quick, silent wedding.

"They do not want a long commitment and are already planning their wedding," said the source. "Now they want a little ceremony with their families. They do not provide for a big celebrity wedding. They marry for love and do not want a noisy marriage.
