Justin Theroux breaks his silence in February separated from Jennifer Aniston.

In an interview with the New York Times on Saturday, the 47-year-old actor called the divorce "heartbreaking" but "soft".

"The good news is that it was probably the most – I chose my words with great care – it was a kind of sweetest separation, in that there was no animosity," did he declare.

He continued: "Again, none of us have died, neither one nor the other are trying to throw themselves hatchets. It's more like that, that's It's friendly, it's boring, but, you know, we've pretty much respected as painless as it can be.

Theroux explained that the separation did not occur without difficulties however.

"It was heartbreaking, only in the sense that friendship would not be the same, from a daily point of view," said Theroux, "but friendship is changing and changing, you know, that part I am very proud at the same time.

When the former couple announced her separation in February, they described her as "mutual" and "lovingly made."

"We are two best friends who have decided to separate us as a couple, but we look forward to continuing our beloved friendship," they said in a statement.
