Kansas will not retain head coach David Beaty at the end of the season, although Beaty will coach the last three games of the team, school Sunday announced. The Jayhawks are 3-6 in 2018 and have just lost 27-3 at home against Iowa State. Beaty has won three victories in his previous three seasons at KU (3-33).
"After a thorough evaluation of the program, I think that a new leadership is needed so that our football team can go ahead and compete at the highest level of the Big 12 conference," said the sports director Jeff Long in a statement. "I know that Coach Beaty cares deeply about his players, and I respect him.The student athletes on this team have continued to play hard – and I'm confident that they will do it for the rest of the season."
Beaty was 6-39 in three seasons and more at the bar and just 2-31 in Big 12 play. His only 12 big victories were won in 2016 on Texas and October 27 on the TCU. Long informed Beaty of his decision Sunday morning and met the team shortly thereafter.
"The search for a new head coach will begin immediately," said Long.
The purchase of Beaty is $ 3 million and the school will meet its financial obligation by paying it in six equal installments. Beaty signed a five-year contract before the 2015 season and this contract was extended for two years until 2021 after the 2016 season.
He had previously spent three years at Texas A & M as former receiver coach Kevin Sumlin. Beaty had previously held the same role in Kansas in 2008-09 under Mark Mangino, as well as in 2011 under Turner Gill. His ties to the state of Texas and his history of offensive success have made him an attractive option for Kansas, but recruitment and success on the network never seemed to materialize.
Long will hold a press conference at 7 pm AND to face his decision to separate from Beaty.
