"Unfortunately, Jemel's life was abruptly interrupted this morning while he was trying to save others from senseless violence," wrote the creator of the page on behalf of Roberson's mother.
The attending officer fired on Roberson at his side after giving him "several verbal orders to drop the gun and land," according to a statement from the Illinois police, citing witnesses.
Roberson 's mother, Beatrice Roberson, sued for more than a million dollars, citing the unidentified defendant and the Midlothian village as defendants.
Outrage as a result of the murder
Many expressed their indignation and concern about alleged racial bias in the latter case of the black man being murdered by the police.
US Senator Corey Booker, D-New Jersey, tweeted, "Words can not describe my horror and outrage."
US Senator Tammy Duckworth, of Illinois, called the shooting "heartbreaking".
Actress Gabrielle Union also tweeted, saying that Roberson was brave and that "his life was ripped off".
