Kanye West donated $ 73,540 (about £ 56,000) to a woman running for mayor of Chicago, her hometown.
Amara Enyia is running as a candidate in February 2019 – and has also been supported by Chance the Rapper.
The money is the exact amount she needed to pay a debt owed to the Illinois State Elections Council following her previous candidacy for mayor in 2015.
In a statement, Ms. Enyia's campaign team thanked Kanye for his "generous action".
His donation comes 11 days after his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House.
The two men discussed prison reform and other political issues over lunch.
Ms. Enyia says her goal as mayor is "to help communities – especially communities facing problems – to free their civic imagination."
She wants to create a public bank in Chicago that she says will "reduce corruption" and "promote economic growth."
Other policies include investments in neighborhood public schools and the creation of safe spaces for building communities.
His candidacy got the support of Chance the Rapper, from Chicago, who supported him last Tuesday.
"I want to work with someone who talks about change, someone who regards our community, someone who talks about equity, someone who talks about equity. ", did he declare.
There was speculation that Chance would run as mayor, but he said that he would not propose his name.
He also recently touched on the views expressed by Kanye.
Speaking on the Joe Budden podcast, Chance said that Kanye "thinks of himself in 300 years and how people will read", and tries "to create a bigger picture in the long run" with his art.
The election of the Mayor of Chicago will take place in February 2019.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, at least 17 candidates have already announced their candidacy for the position.
