KAMPALA, Uganda – Kanye West met with the Ugandan president during a visit to the East African country and handed a pair of white sneakers to the 74-year-old leader.
President Yoweri Museveni said the American rapper and he had "fruitful discussions" on promoting tourism and the arts.
West and his wife, reality TV star Kim Kardashian West, spend their holidays in a national park in Uganda. It is said that he records music in a tent.
The Ugandan presidency released Monday photos of a meeting between West and Museveni, wearing hooded clothes, at the State House, as part of a gift exchange.
Enthusiastic tourism officials see this visit as a sign of the country's tourism potential.
The Ugandan government has been criticized for treating a popular pop deputy, now the opposition legislator Bobi Wine, who alleges torture by the security forces. The government denies it.
