President Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are scheduled to meet Kanye West, a musician, in the White House on Thursday, two people said of the preparations.

West, who has suffered a violent reaction due to his vocal support from the president, will meet with Mr. Kushner first and then have lunch with the president, the two said.

Mr. Kushner, who is Trump's senior adviser, focused on the overhaul of the criminal justice system. A person informed of the meeting said that Mr. West wanted to discuss job opportunities for former convicts. He also hopes to discuss with Mr. Trump the possibility of increasing the number of jobs in the manufacturing sector in the Chicago area, where Mr. West has grown up and recently announced his intention to return, according to the informed person of the meeting.

A representative of Mr. West confirmed the meeting. A White House spokesperson did not respond to an email asking for comments.

They include Mr. Trump's criticism of the former N.F.L. Star Colin Kaepernick and others knelt on the national anthem to protest police brutality against African Americans. Trump denounced such protests and sought to make controversy a cultural touchstone with his supporters.

Mr. West recently stated that he hoped to introduce Mr. Kaepernick to Mr. Trump.
