Kanye West to local high school students: "I'm going back to Chicago"

Kanye West could make another homecoming.

The Chicago rapper said Monday night he plans to return to Chicago.

"I have to let you know that I'm going back to Chicago," West said at Chance the Rapper's Open Micro event at the Harold Washington High School Library. "I'm never going away again."

The reaction of the crowd was taken on a video posted on Twitter.

After West's announcement, the public went crazy. West made a big smile. Chance applauded.

A unified encouragement broke out in the crowd: "Kanye! Kanye! Kanye! Kanye!

West's news is the latest proclamation of the controversial artist, centered on Chicago.

And some have already been debunked.

West took Twitter earlier this month to announce that he would teach a course at the School of the Art Institute. The school confirmed that West was not currently teaching at SAIC and stated that there were no immediate plans to do so.

West also tweeted, "We are doing Chicago Comedy Jam. We will restore the Regal Theater.

West does not appear to be associated with the Chi City comedy scheduled for October 5 to 6 at the Arie Crown Theater, and no official restoration plan has been announced for the South Shore Theater.

West also said he stopped at Theaster Gates' Stony Island Arts bank and found it "super-inspiring" and that a Yeezy office would be in Chicago.

In May, West was involved in a controversy surrounding Donda's House, the Chicago non-profit organization named for his late mother, after a feud on Twitter between Kim Kardashian West and co-founder Che "Rhymefest" Smith. West was accused of neglecting the youth arts organization and no longer serving on the board of directors of the non-profit organization.

It is unclear whether West's move would include his wife and Californian Kim Kardashian West, or their three children. Although the hip-hop artist probably can not meet the residency requirement for the 2019 mayor election, a move to Chicago could dispel it for 2023.

A representative from West did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
