The comedy legend Dave Chappelle said that rapper Kanye West "should not be saying all this shit" about Donald Trump and slavery.
West is a big supporter of the US president, despite critics claiming that Mr. Trump's election has emboldened white supremacists across the United States. The two men met at the White House last week, West calling Mr. Trump a "father figure" whose iconic hat allows him to feel "like Superman".
The rapper "Gold Digger" recently described slavery as "choice" and called for the abolition of the amendment to the US Constitution which banned it.
In a new interview with CNN, Chappelle calls West a "genius" who needs to be a little more cautious in choosing his words.
"I'm not mad at Kanye, he's my brother, I love him, I support him," says Chappelle. "But, you know, I do not have to agree with everything that he says, I trust him as a person of intent, but yes, he should not say all this shit. "
When Mr. Trump was elected in 2016, Chappelle said he was ready to give the star of reality TV a chance. Not anymore.
"I should not have said that shit."
