Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday accepted Pakistan's invitation to attend the inauguration ceremony of a corridor linking Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara to the border on Wednesday, saying the initiative would open " the boundaries of the heart and the mind ".

The cornerstone of India's Dera Baba Nanak-Kartarpur Sahib corridor will be laid by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday.

Singh refused to attend the ceremony in Pakistan, citing his continued support for terrorist activities in his country and the killing of Indian soldiers by the Pakistani armed forces.

However, he praised this historic opportunity and described it as the cherished desire of Sikhs around the world, but said that he "must reluctantly regret his inability to be present."

On Sunday, Sidhu wrote to Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to accept his invitation to the inauguration ceremony, to which Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan would also be present.

"It is with great honor and unmitigated joy that I accept your invitation to attend the inauguration ceremony in Kartarpur Sahib on November 28. I look forward to meeting you on this historic occasion." writes Sidhu in Qureshi.

The Minister of Local Affairs, Tourism and Cultural Affairs wrote that his request for "authorization" (the ceremony) is now filed with the Department of External Affairs.

In the letter, Sidhu said that day "will really start work".

"As our nations make this first step, the Kartarpur Spirit can make us pilgrims, undertaking a journey that breaks the barriers of history and opens the boundaries of heart and mind" , did he declare.

"A journey that our people can walk together towards a future of shared peace and prosperity for India and Pakistan".

Sidhu was responding to Qureshi's letter of November 24, in which the Pakistani Foreign Minister said: "This is a long-standing demand from the Sikh community, especially from India. unshakeable partner in this business. "

Sidhu replied, "Good deeds speak for themselves, the hand only interprets their eloquence, every noble act leaves its place."

The Punjab minister praised the Indian government's decision to expand Dera Baba Nanak's crossing in Gurdaspur, his state, to the neighboring country's historic sanctuary.

The decision coincided with the 549th anniversary of the birth of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev on Friday.

The government will build and develop the corridor connecting Gurdaspur district to the international border to allow Sikh pilgrims from India to go to Gurdara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur on the banks of the Ravi River.

In August, Sidhu was targeted by opposition parties in Punjab after his visit to Islamabad and hugged Pakistan 's army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, at the time of the visit. swearing Imran Khan to the post of prime minister of this country.

Sidhu then claimed that General Bajwa had told him about "making efforts to open the Kartarpur corridor."

Kartarpur is located in Shakargarh in the Narowal district of Punjab, Pakistan. Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, had spent more than 18 years there.

Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara is located about three kilometers from the Pakistan border.
